The flowers are blooming, the sunshine warms up our bodies and calls us outside more and more, every plant is flourishing, and drinking up the spring rain. Although spring isn’t my favorite season, it is my second favorite. The cool air, warm sun, the flowers, the comforting spring rain. Just to sit with a hot cup of tea and watch the rain quench the flowers’ thirst, making them grow more and more. That might be one of my favorite things. Besides hot chocolate and pumpkins.

But I wasn’t thinking about that when I bought this planner in January. Definitely not. I wasn’t thinking about flowers blooming, sunshine warming the atmosphere, hot tea, or rain. In fact when I saw this planner, I thought, “Hmm…I’m not so sure that I’m into florals.” But that phrase. Oh, that phrase. It caught me off guard and my heart said, “Yep, this is the one.”

Now let me just say that I am a planner maniac. I used to carry a planner and like 3 separate notebooks for everything else – to do lists, grocery lists, reminders, etc. I once bought like a $25 planner that had sections for everything, literally everything you could imagine. So when I felt my heart screaming to buy this one, I was a bit confused. There’s nothing super special about this planner. It’s not one that comes with 15 different sections, one you can sketch in, one that has a removable bookmark that you can keep your daily to dos. It’s just a planner. Simple, basic, practical, gets the job done kind of planner.

But looking back now (I mean, it’s already April you guys!), I can see why I chose this planner. I now love florals which this planner jumpstarted for me. And every single morning when I see the cover of my planner, it reminds me to take a few moments and reflect. What kind of mom am I going to choose to be today? How can I glorify God today? What can I do to help my husband today?

And it has changed everything.

I’m happier as a mom, more thoughtful as a wife, more intentional in seeking Jesus, AND make me time.

All because of this simple little planner.

ÔĽŅFriday Favorites

It’s finally Friday! This week¬†was kind of blah. It’s been raining and raining and RAINING so much. We’ve splashed in the rain a bit which was so fun but my phone ran out of storage so I didn’t get photos! Ugh! Thankfully I cleared it last night so I’ll ready to snap photos with my phone. ūüôā

one // NO SPOILERS – We have been watching a lot of movies lately.¬†My hubby¬†and I recently watched 10 Cloverfield Lane. Oh. My. Gosh. Psychological thriller, what is going on, wait what is that kind of movie. SO good! I loved it! The characters are so relatable, which is something I love especially in¬†female characters. And then we watched¬†Beauty and the Beast¬†you guys!!! YAS!!! I was so excited! Like I literally couldn’t¬†handle myself. Laughter, tears, anxiety, anger, disgust. So many emotions!¬†Perfect performance by the cast! Also Emma Watson. Need I say more? And then after that, we watched¬†Moana and it was so cute! I keep humming the songs when I do dishes!

similar blanket

two¬†// Watching this girl nap never gets old. Her gorgeous, hand-crocheted blanket, a pillow that she totally stole from us (and helps her sleep because it smells like us), and of course she has to have her friends with her. It’s just precious and sweet and oh my gosh baby girl stay little for a little longer please!

three¬†// Okay, so I’ve recently changed my dish-washing habit. Game changer you guys. I used to wash dishes after I put Lilly down. It took me forever, the dishwasher and dish mat would be full and there’d STILL be dishes in the sink (super discouraging!), and I wouldn’t get much time with my hubby. So late last¬†week I decided to do dishes after meals and it’s been awesome. Less time washing dishes at night means more time with the hubby. Um yes please!

four // I’m due for some new mascara and super excited! I’m debating on between this one and this one. What do you think? They also have blue and purple toned ones, which I think are pretty fun but not for me.

Favorite Baby Names

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in painful childbirth with no sleep to follow for at least 3 years. Wait. What? That’s not how the song goes? ūüėČ

But while childbirth IS painful and having no sleep sucks (let’s pause to praise God for coffee and tea…alright, moving along), you’ll find yourself sometimes losing more sleep just staring at your tiny newborn. You might cry during this one-sided starting contest. I usually did. Little eyes, faint eyebrows, tiny nose, itty bitty¬†mouth, delicate¬†fingers. Those little features that were grown inside of a human body. It’s amazing.

Little babies are just so precious, which means picking out a name can be stressful and extremely overwhelming. They’re going to have that name the rest of their lives! No pressure or anything but don’t screw it up, parents.

We spent MONTHS going through names, searching Google like crazies. I think we went through the first 6 pages on Google looking for girl names. No joke. It was intense. I love these names. My husband…well not so much. But who needs husbands anyway? (Just kidding babe. I love you. And I literally need you to make babies because, ya know, I can’t do it by myself. Haha!)

1.) Nessa – It’s a shortened version of Vanessa and I love it. I found it here and thought it sounded so sweet rolling off the tongue. Nessa.

2.) Nora¬†– I know a sweet little girl who was born not too long ago named Nora and it’s such a pretty name. Sort of like a modern version of the old-fashioned name Eleanor. I found it here.

3.) Olivia – I’ve basically loved this name since I was a middle schooler watching¬†Law & Order: SVU. Mariska Hargitay is amazing!

4.) Elizabeth – Um…Pride & Prejudice¬†anyone?! I read the book long before watching any of the movies. Loved it!

5.) Anya/Auna – I’ve always loved this name and never knew why. Until I was babysitting some kiddos one day and rewatched¬†Anastasia. Oh, that’s why. ūüėČ

6.) Grace РSimple, elegant, and pretty. This was on our list for girl names when we were pregnant with Lilly. We might see this one again if we get pregnant in the future.

7.) Harper – At first, I didn’t like this one. I was just kind of meh about it. But I must say that it’s grown on me.

8.) Amara – I met a girl that I worked with one summer named Amara. Such a pretty name so I stowed it away for possible future use!

9.) Iris – Pretty just like the flower and would be so cute to call a daughter named Iris “my flower” as a name of endearment.

10.) Penelope – Whimsical, pretty, old-fashioned, and perfect! I hope this one becomes more popular.

1.) William – I’ve got a thing for strong boys’ names. And this one I love. Simple, old-fashioned, but still relevant.

2.) Cole – Oh! And this one but my brother-in-law’s name is Cole soooo that might get a little weird, yeah?

3.) Bruce – It has nothing to do with¬†Finding Nemo or¬†Superman. I promise. Just a strong boy’s name that I absolutely love. And, best part, it’s husband approved! ūüôā

4.) Quinn – I’ll admit: when I saw it here, this was another meh one for me. But the more I started to say it, the more it grew on me, and the more I liked it. So it made it to the list.

5.) Colm – I had never heard this name before until I saw it here and I was automatically like yep. I like it a lot. Not so much love. But definitely a strong like.

6.) Oliver РVery similar to Olivia. Basically just the boy version, right? Also Oliver and Company with Oliver the cat.

7.) Darcy – Yep, another¬†Pride & Prejudice steal. “You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.” My heart.

8.) Emerson – This would never be husband approved but I’m so in love with this name!

9.) Micah – Not really biblically related at all even though he was a minor prophet. I really just like the name.

10.) Asher – I love this name! It’s basically like the boy version of Ashley, am I right?

Things Kids Say

Has your kid said anything funny? If you’re a parent to young kiddos, I’m sure that they have! The phrase “kids say funny things” definitely applies to toddlers and young children. I bet that’s where the phrase was coined. Though I really have no idea.

Here are a few funny things that Lilly has said that crack us up.

Lilly was “reading” one of my books. In the back were a few other books the author has written. There was one that had a rock on the cover. My toddler’s response? “It’s a rock. Maybe it’s poop.”

Something that Lilly has been doing is going up to people and poking their butts while proclaiming, “It’s poooooooop!”

“Momma tampon. Daddy need a tampon.” Oh my gosh! This one was just the best!

Have your kiddos said anything funny recently?

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday friends! I hope everyone had a good week because I know we sure did. Besides of course the hail and tornado warning on Monday. Buuut you know. That’s what happens when you live in the Midwest.

one // Such a good read for encouraging our husbands in our marriages!

two // I LOVE this company! Simple ingredients you can pronounce, no weird or questionable ingredients, stuff that’s actually good for your skin, and they give you a bunch of coupons when you order online. Um yes please!

three // Okay friends. I used to think I liked the stretchy type jeans until I actually tried a pair of real jean shorts on. Like 99% cotton. Oh. My. Gosh. No stretching out which means no saggy butt syndrome which means my butt looks good after a day of momming. YAS! I bought 2 of these!

four // So we got these shoes this week because Lilly has outgrown her old shoes. There actually boy shoes but I love that they’re neutral and will go with basically anything. And those little pineapples. So fun!

Late Nights

Late nights as a mama. They can be tough, right mamas? Babies screaming, toddlers refusing to go to sleep, throwing in another load of laundry, tackling all the dishes, taking a shower, maybe shaving legs for the first time in 2 months. True story you guys. Sad, but true.

Sleep deprivation becomes a part of you when you are as a mom to littles. And it is SO hard sometimes to be tired all the time. Dry shampoo, makeup (umm…concealer!), coffee (or tea for me), leggings, yoga pants, and quesadilla dinners make it all more doable. If you’re a mom to littles who doesn’t own a pair of leggings, GIRL. Go. Get. Some. Comfiest thing I’ve ever worn in my life! And also whoever invented dishwashers, washers, dryers, and crock pots deserves a trillion dollars and maybe their own vacation island or lake house.

But those late night snuggles. Priceless. The late night talks with your toddler. Unforgettable. The beautiful nursing session with your baby. Heart-warming. Your screaming baby? Not going to say that you’ll miss that stage, but you might miss the sight of your beautiful baby sleeping (finally!) as they grow.

Because those kiddos need you. They need you in a way that no one else ever will. And they need you in a way that they never will again. When that sweet child is 10, he or she will still need you. But not in the same way. Not in a clingy, nursing baby kind of way. Or in a read me one more book kind of way. Or even in a late night kind of way.

Because those late nights as a mama. Rough. But those priceless, unforgettable, heart-warming moments? Soul changing.
